Yolanda and Franklyn’s story began at a wedding in Greensboro, NC, which the groom was Franklyn’s close friend and the son of Yolanda’s God-parents. Their paths did not cross at the wedding reception, but the day after, at the wedding BBQ. Franklyn had taken note of Yolanda the night before, but didn't approach her until the BBQ. During the BBQ, with a crowd of people around, Franklyn cornered her and introduced himself. He wasted no time and asked "so what do you think of long-distance relationships?" Franklyn lived in Chicago IL, at the time and Yolanda was in college in Radford, VA. Her response to this strange yet straightforward question was "long distance relationships are hard, but if both parties are committed they will find the means to make it work.” Franklyn took her number and they spent the entire summer getting to know each over the phone, and as they say "the rest is history." It only took 20yrs, but hey who's counting?
